Gallery Show Environment Design

This was a collaborative project with the goal of designing a gallery experience for a student furniture show in an existing art gallery. Since this show was held in an art gallery there was limited floor space for the furniture installations.

We began by taking a LiDAR scan of the gallery which we used to create a CAD model. We then laser cut foamcore using the CAD model to create a scale model.

While choosing a color scheme and signage theme we discussed many approaches. We felt that the biggest challenge was to make the signage and any other graphics stand out enough to be noticed, but not clash with the multiple styles of work being displayed. To solve this we chose a 50s/60s theme for graphics and signage. This was different enough to draw attention and did not closely match anything being displayed.

I explored lighting gel options to create spotlights on smaller items placed on pedestals.

To promote traffic flow around the thick walls I devised cloth spirals that wrapped the end of the walls creating a soft visual and tactile flow. We applied gels to spotlights and the windows. We also created colored pedestals to create interest in the corners and areas that had the potential to receive lower traffic.
